EASTER DAY MASS AT ST FRANCIS’

As has been tradition for over a decade, Chamber Strings of Melbourne will again accompany the wonderful Choir of St Francis at the  High Mass on Easter Day at St Francis Catholic Church in the City.  Music to performed includes the Schubert ‘Mass in C Major’, Mozart’s ‘Laudate Dominum’ (from Vesperae Solennes de Confessore), Handel’s ‘Hallalujah’ Chous (from Messiah), the Psalm ‘This is the Day’ by Christopher Willcock and an Easter Sequence by Richard Proulx.  Conducted by Tony Way (Director of Music, St Francis Church).

SPECIAL MASS AT ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH

All Saints Anglican Church, East St Kilda (Corner Dandenong Rd and Chapel Street, East St Kilda)

Chamber Strings of Melbourne will appear in a second major liturgical performance over the Easter period in Melbourne.  CSM will join members of the Melbourne University Choral Society to perform the Haydn ‘Missa Brevis St Joannes de Deo’ at historic All Saints Anglican Church, East St Kilda. CSM will play at the 10 am High Mass . John Rivers will accompany on the organ, and Andrew Wailes will conduct. Historic All Saints’ East St Kilda is one of Melbourne’s oldest Anglican churches. The foundation stone was laid on 8th November 1858 and the first service was held in the church on the 8th December 1861. The building, which can seat up to 1400 people, is said to be the largest Anglican parish church in the southern hemisphere.

The Church is located at the corner of busy Dandenong Road (the Princes Highway) and Chapel Street, East St. Kilda, just south of the famous Chapel Street tourist precinct. The Astor cinema is opposite the church hall. Trams pass the site in both Dandenong Road (routes 05 & 64) and Chapel Street (routes 78 & 79). The Windsor railway station (on the Brighton/Sandringham line) is only a few hundred metres away. The train journey to/from the Melbourne CBD takes less than ten minutes. As well, there is car parking available for worshippers in the car park beside All Saints’ Church. The General meeting of CSM committee and members will take place on this day.
